Description
The Black Box MED101A is an asynchronous serial extender that enables any two async serial devices to communicate half- or full-duplex over two multimode ST fibers at distances up to 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) . The extender supports RS232, RS422, and RS485 interface protocols, making it ideal for industrial applications that use different interface standards. The unit features three-way isolation at 2000-V input/output, protecting connected equipment from ground loops and electrical surges. For RS-485 operation, the extender uses data-derived or RTS transmit/receive switching. Indicator LEDs monitor signal and power status for easy troubleshooting. The extended ambient operating range makes this extender suitable for harsh industrial environments.
