Description

The Black Box TL421A is a 4-port RS232 passive splitter designed for cost-effective serial communication sharing, enabling four DTE terminal devices to share a single DCE modem device . This compact splitter connects to your modem via an RJ45 straight-through cable on the master port, while Ports 1 through 4 connect to your terminal devices. The splitter transmits data received from the modem to all attached terminal devices simultaneously, allowing all terminals to monitor incoming data . The device is fully passive, requiring no external power, and operates transparently to all data formats, rates, and protocols. Note that only one terminal device can send data to the modem at a time, as the RS232 data output by the attached terminal devices is logically OR gated and then transmitted to the modem. There are no user-configurable switches, jumpers, or settings – simply connect the devices and power up normally. The TL421A is ideal for applications where multiple terminals need to share a single modem line, avoiding the cost of purchasing multiple modems and lines.
