Description
The Black Box CL1090A-F is an RS232 to 20-mA current loop converter that enables communication between async RS232 devices and legacy 20-mA current loop equipment . This bidirectional converter features optical isolators in both the transmit (T+ and T-) and receive (R+ and R-) loops, which effectively keep out electrical interference and eliminate ground loops that can degrade signal quality. The converter can be configured for active or passive current loop operation – in active mode, an async RS232 device can communicate with a passive 20-mA current loop device; in passive mode, an async RS232 device can communicate with an active 20-mA current loop device . The compact unit is configured as RS232 (DCE) but can be modified for DTE use with an asynchronous modem eliminator (ME212). This converter is ideal for integrating legacy industrial equipment, older terminals, and current loop-based systems with modern PC infrastructure.
